Old Street Roundabout

RWA used their technical expertise and knowledge of SRL temporary lights systems to design fully segregated cycle and pedestrian facilities during all phases of the build of Old Street Roundabout.  This ensured a safe environment for vulnerable road users during the construction of the peninsula.

Due to numerous incidents at Old Street Roundabout, with a third of them involving cyclists, Transport for London commissioned Morgan Sindell & Blue Arrow Traffic Management to undertake a major transformation of the network by removing the roundabout.

Blue Arrow appointed RWA with the challenge of designing temporary light arrangements that not only catered for motor vehicles but also for cyclists and pedestrians. The designs also had to allow the contractor to build the scheme efficiently and for Transport for London to manage the road network effectively to avoid unnecessary delay.

To support the multiple construction phases, the road layout was converted into a temporary two-way operation using UTC temporary lights to manage traffic movements. RWA worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure a safe operation for all road users, whilst also reducing excessive delay on the Transport for London Road Network.
